From marbles, rubber bands and paper airplanes in childhood, to mobile phones, computers and game consoles in adulthood, to watches, cars and cosmetics in middle age, to walnuts, bodhi and bird cages in old age… In the long years, not only your parents and three or two confidants have accompanied you. The seemingly inconspicuous toys also witness your growth and accompany your anger and joy from the beginning to the end.
However, how much do you know about the history of toys
The emergence of toys can be traced back to prehistory. But at that time, most toys were natural objects such as stones and branches. Some of the earliest known toys are gyroscopes, dolls, marbles and toy animals from ancient Egypt and China. Pushing iron rings, balls, whistles, board games and bamboos were very popular toys in Greek and Roman times.
During the two international wars and after the war, military toys were the most popular in shopping malls. After that, toys powered by batteries became popular. Some of them would glow and some would move. Gradually, electronic toys with microcomputers and video games began to become popular. At the same time, toys produced according to the current hot movies, stars, etc. are becoming popular all over the world.
In fact, toys in China also have a long history. Small pottery pigs were found at Dawenkou site in Ningyang, Shandong Province, about 5500 years ago. There are also pottery toys and bells among the relics of Qi family civilization about 3800 years ago. Kite and ball games have a history of more than 2000 years. In addition, diabolo, windmill, rolling ring, tangram, and nine link have become traditional Chinese folk toys. Then, at the end of the 1950s, China’s toy industry gradually formed with Beijing and Shanghai as the primary production areas. In addition, there are more than 7000 kinds of toys. Hong Kong’s toy industry rose in the 1960s, and Taiwan’s toy industry will be greatly developed in the 1980s.
Now, China is a big producer of toy goods. The vast majority of toys in the world are produced in China, and 90% of toys are directly exported once they are produced. At the same time, more than 70% of toys exported are processed with supplied materials or samples. However, this simple and crude way is not friendly to the development of toys in China. As the core contents such as design and material selection are provided by foreign manufacturers, the development of toys in China has been weak for a long time.
However, in recent years, many local domestic toy enterprises, led by doll masters and Dayou Industry and Trade, have started to take root in China like mushrooms. Under the correct guidance of the policy, these local enterprises began to design their own toy IPs, which were either cute or cool, such as Kaka Bear, Thumb Chickens, etc. These toys rooted in the local market had a terrible impact on foreign toys. However, it is precisely because of the efforts of domestic enterprises that the competition in the toy industry has become increasingly fierce, thus promoting the continuous development of Chinese toys.
